Abstract
The significance of the North Burdick area lies in its industrial and commercial history, as well as its architectural quality and variety. The structures, ranging from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, contained a combination of manufacturing, retail, and residential spaces within a relatively small area. Furniture, clothing, grocery, and drug stores have occupied the same buildings as wholesalers, printing companies, windmill manufacturers, and cigar manufacturers. These buildings also served as meeting places, like Armory Hall in the Smith & Pomeroy building, and the many saloons, restaurants, and pool halls that dotted the street through the decades.
