Abstract
Curing the First World War, Canada faced an Internal crisis that threatened to disrupt its contributions to the Allied war effort. This crisis was the product of one hundred and fifty years of mistrust. In 176 3, at the end of the Seven Years War, France gave to Britain its possessions in North America. These territories were inhabited by Frenchmen and, up to the present time, these Frenchmen have resisted all attempts to deprive them of their language, religion, and culture. Even as English settlers came and outnumbered the French, the French Canadians held on to their unique position as Frenchmen In an English Empire.
