Abstract

The reason I researched the subject of changes in teaching algebra since 1936 was my own curiosity of how the "new math"; compared to the "old math." I looked at algebra first because it is more immediately useful to me as a secondary teacher than basic arithmetic; and secondly because I could compare the relationships between the two grade levels of algebra.
