Abstract

When I was thirteen years old, my parents and I went on a week long vacation to northern Michigan in the middle of August. Though we had planned to spend the week swimming in the lake and sitting around a bonfire, a stretch of cold rain forced us inside our small cabin. During a stop in town for a few provisions, we found a store that sold jigsaw puzzles. Dad bought one, and we began assembling it that night. Over the next few rainy days, the puzzle went from a pile of scrambled pieces to a somewhat completed painting of a Victorian cottage. As more and more of those pieces came together, it became easier to see how each one was vital to the final product.
