Abstract

For my honors thesis project, I wanted to gain experience that would directly benefit my future career as an art educator. Therefore, through my thesis project, I would need to practice creating lesson plans, integrating other disciplines, organizing a curriculum and then teaching that curriculum. There is a sense of working with children that can only be learned by interacting with them. In my studies, I have noticed that there is a strong connection between literature and the visual arts, and this connection is a great way to integrate reading into the art classroom. By contemporary education standards, reading is one of the most important skills a child can acquire. Therefore, I decided to do a hands-on program with children that combines reading and art.
