Abstract

As an interning elementary school teacher, I have been fortunate enough to attempt to teach a mini-French program in a fifth grade classroom. The first obstacle was that these students had no concept of where France, or even Europe, was on a map, to be followed by the admission that they thought people in Europe spoke English. As will be discussed later, I have made significant progress with my French language and culture instruction, however, the process could have been much smoother, had these students been educated in a school system that valued world diversity enough to teach about it.
