Abstract
The objective of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of the FASB to that of the APB and in so doing, subjectively evaluate the FASB's performance. This objective is accomplished through a two-step process. First, an examination of the criticism that was directed toward the APB is undertaken. This examination is made so that the reasons for the Board's ultimate demise may be better understood. Second, these same criticisms are applied to the profession's current standards-setter, the FASB. The concluding segment of this paper subjectively evaluates the FASB's effectiveness in light of these criticisms.
