Abstract
For my proposal, I am choosing to do a documentary. This documentary will be about the Idlewild Community. The Idlewild Community is formerly an all-black summer resort during the Civil Rights period when segregation was prominent in the United States. Today, Idlewild is still used as a summer vacation resort, but is not completely all black. My reason for choosing this as my topic is because the Idlewild Community was an important getaway for African Americans during the 1920s all the way through the Civil Rights Movement. Not only was this an important getaway for them, but many celebrities got their starts at Idlewild including Louis Armstrong, Delia Reese, the Four Tops, and the list could go on. With my project, I will include interviews from scholars such as Dr. Ben C. Wilson, Dr. Lewis Walker, Mr. Bill McClure (owner of the Red Rooster in Idlewild), and Mr. John Meeks (the owner of the Morton Motel in the Idlewild Community).
