Abstract
The reasons for which history is written, and the perspectives and forms used to write it, have changed dramatically over the centuries. These changes, which among other things include a switch from the divine viewpoint to the secular, can be identified by tracing the different interpretations of a person or event over time. King John of England, who reigned from 1199 to 1216, is an excellent subject through which to show the transformations that took place in the field of history from the medieval to the modern period.
