Abstract
A truck component manufacturing company needed a tester to check wire harnesses. The Universal Wire Harness Tester (UWHT) was designed and built to solve this need using both hardware and software components. The Harness Tester is a portable test stand, which includes a Programmable Logic controller programmed to automate the test. The UWHT has the ability to check a wire harness for continuity and short circuits. It can evaluate harnesses with up to 160 terminals. A Wire Harness Adapter unit was also designed and built to connect wire harnesses to the UWHT. The UWHT alsohas the ability to communicate with a Universal Automated Test Fixture (UATF). A protocol driver was designed to perform the communication between the UWHT and the UATF.
