Abstract
The focus of this paper is on the novice user, someone who has had limited or no computer experience. The students who participated in this open-ended/quantitative survey were fulfilling their computer literacy requirement at Western Michigan University. The primary concern expressed at a heavily used Western Michigan University computer lab by students is that computers are "too hard to use". This lab contains the three types of computing environments that were studied in this thesis: Macintosh, Zenith, and VAX/VMS. This study compared the three groups of student users and their attitudes towards computing.
