Abstract
Dennis Brain was a brilliant musician that took the solo horn to a new level, but he was not the first in his family to achieve greatness on this perilous instrument. In fact the first Brain to play the horn was his grandfather, A.E. Brain. Following suit, Dennis' Uncle Alfred and father, Aubrey, also became prominent horn players in Britain and beyond. The talent in this family grew with each generation, until they reached levels of unbelievable brilliance in Dennis. As a result of the Brain family's overwhelming, inherited talent, they were affectionately named the "Brain Trust." Looking at the history of Dennis' predecessors is critical in order to understand what shaped his career.
