Abstract
On the pathway to becoming a graduate of the jazz studies program at Western Michigan University, the senior recital is often viewed as the height of the journey. The performance is designed to be a culmination of learning and is perhaps the greatest statement of musical growth and development. Not only does the student benefit from performing for a self generated audience, he or she also gains invaluable experience in planning and preparation. The process of conjoining the talents and skills of everyone involved provides a basis of understanding which is crucial to survival in the music industry.
