Abstract
Due to the changing needs for fish in Michigan's lakes and streams, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has approved an expansion project for Wolf Lake Hatchery. A goal of that expansion is to install a heat exchanger to recover some energy that is currently discharged in the hatchery's effluent flow. Literature is reviewed to determine the best method and current practices in designing heat exchangers. The plan for the design is laid out, followed by a budget and estimated schedule for completion of the project.
