Abstract
Pronouns are one area of grammar that are taught in Spanish classrooms. Proper usage of subject pronouns, placement of indirect and direct object pronouns, and purely reflexive pronouns, including related possessive adjectives, can all cause problems for high school students in Spanish classrooms in the United States. This paper takes a close look at these topics, and investigates the rules for proper usage. Then, possible reasons as to why these pronouns cause problems for high school students are suggested. Finally, suggestions are made as to how the high school teacher might improve instruction of these topics.
