Abstract

According to the 2000 census, in Michigan there are over 240,000 residents who primarily speak Spanish at home, some of whom may only speak elementary English. Considering statistics like this, medical professionals are presented with a challenging language and cultural barrier when attempting to provide high quality health care. It is vitally important for emerging health care professionals to be able to empathize and communicate with the growing percent of their patients that will primarily speak Spanish. This thesis seeks to aid health care professionals by providing cultural information and sample pamphlets in Spanish.
