Abstract
Kalamazoo County currently has 14 miles of paved asphalt trail, known as the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail (KRVT), with plans to build 20 more miles. These new trail segments will create a system of more than 140 miles of non-motorized trail throughout southwest Michigan, connecting the Kal-Haven Trail with Battle Creek Linear Park and the Portage Bicentennial Park Trail. The motivation behind the addition is to promote widespread use of the trail by Western and Kalamazoo College students, as well as to provide a safe, accessible pedestrian route to downtown.
This report documents the planning and design of the proposed non-motorized path section, from the initial scoping of the project to the creation of a comprehensive plan set that includes drawings and specifications for construction.
