Abstract
MAK is a twenty-four-page mock fashion magazine created in the summer and fall of 2012 to enhance and highlight Heidi Bodell’s skills and knowledge developed through her education at Western Michigan University - Lee Honors College. The magazine contains articles, photography, mock advertisements, and other fashion spreads targeted to female teenagers interested in the fashion industry. More specifically, the magazine contains articles and spreads titled “The Perfect Fit Denim”, “G.I. Jane Inspired Trend”, “Eye-Catching Rings Under $20”, “The Guy’s Opinion”, DIY Batik Dyeing”, “The It Color”, “Chunky Heels and Metallics”, and “More Than Just a Little Black Dress”. Mock advertisements for Nike, perfume, H&M, and Abercrombie & Fitch were created to fall within the chosen fashion companies’ brand image. The magazine aims to enhance and inform the target audience of fashion trends. It also promotes acceptance of different body types through articles and photography containing plus size models. MAK was created solely for educational purposes, and is not being sold or distributed to the public. Heidi’s mentors throughout the project include Kelly Weathers and Dr. Barbara Frazier. MAK was presented and discussed for Thesis Defense on November 29, 2012 to one of Kelly Weather’s Fashion Industry classes at Western Michigan University.
