Abstract
This recital program is in chronological order and is meant to portray the expansion of the violin’s timbre, polyphonic function, and virtuosic technique through composition over time. Nearly all of the composers on this program were violinists, with the exception of Tchaikovsky, who wrote his concerto in D major receiving advice on writing idiomatically for violin from his friend Iosif Kotek.
