Abstract
As a Multimedia Arts Technology major, I decided to do my honors thesis as my Capstone project that is already built in to my major. Capstone projects can be anything from a complicated electronic composition to a physical musical and/or audio device. For my project, I chose to make a full album, with the goal of making a profit for the client. We’re The Bulldogs happens to be the first full album produced in the short history of the MAT major and Capstone project. This album is of the 2016-2017 Vicksburg High School Top Dawgs Jazz Band based in Vicksburg, Michigan. The album includes 10 big band jazz charts, with 9 of them being influential in the band’s 10 year history and 1 composition/arrangement I wrote specifically for this album. The only non-Vicksburg high school musicians that can be heard on this album are the band’s director Ben Rosier as well as me. I chose this ensemble because I am a graduate of Vicksburg High School and so I knew the director and a few of the band members before the recording process started. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered completely through Western Sound Studios as well as the electronic music labs, both of which are located in the Dalton Center on campus. Over 200 copies of the album have been made and at least 50 copies have already been sold within the first 2 months of its release which has already given the band a profit. The Lee Honors College will have their own copy of the CD which may be available to view and/or rent. Purchasing a copy of We’re The Bulldogs can be done through the Vicksburg High School Band program.
