Abstract

WMU’s Center for Advanced Vehicle Design and Simulation (CAViDS) has undertaken the design and construction of a high-speed gear test stand, to be run at 20,000 rpm and 300 KW. The purpose of this stand is to provide a facility to evaluate the surface integrity of gears running at this speed, which is typical of that proposed for electric vehicle drivetrains. A system was needed to adequately lubricate and cool the gears and bearings in the test stand under these conditions. This paper documents the development of that system.
