Abstract
Performance is an aspect of music education that is often overlooked. So often, people focus purely on the pedagogical side, ignoring the fact that in teaching a student to be a performer, a teacher must therefore be a performer themselves. In the opposite fashion, some potential educators focus solely on the performance aspect of the job, theorizing that their abilities will compensate for the lack of pedagogical skills to accompany it. Senior Recital, Clarinet is a demonstration of how the two can- and should- be combined in a practical setting. The exploration of the history, context, and pedagogy behind several “standards'' in the clarinet repertoire is accompanied by a performance of those pieces, providing a juxtaposition of an example with an explanation.
