Abstract
Due to substandard mental capacities, many individuals and families of these individuals may encounter problems in attempting to cope with life circumstances. Many of these problems are not present in people who possess adequate capacities. The primary research for this endeavor was to put the problem of the mentally retarded child and his family in its proper perspective. This was accomplished through a review of the literature. From this literature, consistent results were found, these provided the basis for the research hypothesis. These hypotheses were under investigation in the survey portion of the research.
