Abstract
The goal of creating this cooking camp was to give students from Washington Writer's Academy, a school in which 93% of the children live at or below the poverty line, the opportunity to gain some of the skills necessary to succeed in their given circumstances. Whether it was giving them a positive way to occupy their time, showing them inexpensive and healthy ways to create a meal, teaching them skills to assist their parents, opening their eyes to new countries and cultures, and perhaps even career options, but the biggest hope was that this camp would have a lasting impact on their lives.
