Abstract
Sexual abuse of female inmates by male staff occurs in several manners including, rape, sexual touching, verbal harassment and privacy violations. Custodial sexual abuse is an issue which the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) has been negligent in addressing and abolishing despite several investigations supporting allegations of abuse. There exist a significant number of international, federal, and state statutes outlawing sexual abuses in the prison. The Michigan Department of Corrections must adhere to the current international, federal, and state laws providing for the humane treatment of all prisoners.
