Abstract

Solving many business problems requires the coordination of several departments within a company. In the past, firms were organized by function. Greater importance was typically given to one's own function, and departments often worked towards divergent goals. More advanced business models are dropping the walls between departments. One way to achieve coordination is through the use of cross-functional project teams, which focus on "complex, non-routine and innovative tasks and are devoted to specific goals." These teams pull members of different areas with different experiences, viewpoints, and skills together to achieve a common goal. This thesis documents the author's experience working in one of these teams.
