Abstract
This paper will survey political control by Soviet leaders of the Soviet press. This will include a brief look at the Russian press under Tsar Nicholas, and a description of the Marxist basis of Soviet press theory. Each major Soviet leader will then be discussed in terms of his control over the Soviet press and some of the effects instigated by their control. A synthesized analysis of the development of media control will conclude this review of the Soviet press, criticizing the basic principles behind the Soviet press which have held throughout the history of the Soviet Union.
