Abstract
The natural environment is a system we as humans can learn from. We after all, benefit from the system of nature, it is the idea that there are three groups who inhabit the built environment, that is flora, fauna, and human. By working together, we create a circular approach to sustainable development. What it means to be self-sufficient is to work alongside nature and what it has to offer. Creating a built environment that benefits all four tiers of sustainability can create a circular approach to sustainable systems that will benefit all three groups who inhabit the built environment.
Biomimicry is a design approach that looks at the form, function, and behavior of the natural environment. Creating an environment that works together in a circular approach with nature can create sustainable solutions that in favor create a sustainable future. Looking into the flora and fauna that are endangered in a specific area creates an understanding of what needs to be incorporated into the environment that will pave the way for a sustainable future. Coexisting with nature starts with creating an environment where all can thrive.
This research explores biomimicry as a circular approach, social, cultural, economic, and environmental sustainability factors, as well as form and function as a natural source. By exploring these key objectives, we can then prove that self-sufficiency is a principle that achieves sustainable architecture in various dimensions.
