Description
Friday Prayer was traditionally not attended in Sisakht. Farmers had little time, and prayer was a private affair, practiced in the home or the fields when a farmer paused mid-day to pray. With Islamic rule, attendance at Friday Prayer became all but mandatory. In this image, Loeffler was able to shoot the congregation from behind the Mullah in the new mosque. Only his familiarity with the villagers over 60 years, and their comfort with him among them, allowed him this bold position. Si new mosque, mandated attendance. View from behind Mullah - see text
