Description

Procession of Ashura in Sisakht, 1966. Ashura celebrates the death of Imam Hussein, and is an important ceremony in Shi'a Islam. Men clap their breast or beat their back with chains, chanting prayers. The procession traditionally went from the village mosque to another village. Image group 363-371, 443.
