Papers on competing ideals, interests, mentalities, aspirations and behaviors characterizing late medieval masculine identities. Papers in this session focus on late medieval France and England, and include papers discussing Chaucer and the Chronicles (Chroniques) of Froissart. They also consider the trope of aging; the history of the idea of the bachelor; brotherhood as a form of rivalry; and late medieval changes in the ideal conceptions of knight and courtier as competing forms of high status masculine identity.
