This session continues the spirit of reading aloud, learning, and interpretation established by Alan Gaylord of Dartmouth College over many years of wine-hour sessions at Kalamazoo and breakfast sessions at SEMA. All who would like to learn, learn more, practice, or come close to perfecting their performance of Chaucerian Middle English are welcome. The workshop will be conducted via several small break-out groups, self-selected. Highly recommended reading to prepare for this workshop: Howell Chickering’s "Teaching the Prosody of the Canterbury Tales" in Peter Travis and Frank Grady, gen eds., MLA Approaches to Teaching Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, second ed. (New York: MLA, 2014), pp. 47-52.
