This session will explore the beginnings and practices of several abbeys located in the West of modern day France. Papers will present studies of the role played by the religious houses of Rouen in pilgrimages; of the structures of Benedictine abbeys built to receive hosts; of the liturgical practices involving mortuary rolls; of the influence of the Gregorian reform on the history of Canons regular.
