Description

This is the first of two sessions on creating and maintaining institutions or practices by bishops and the secular clergy in the Middle Ages. From founding a see to its reform, bishops were often confronted with the problem of creating something out of nothing or creating something out of something. Such situations posed challenges, especially in an era that did not always approve of novelty. How did bishops meet those challenges?
