Description
Round table session:
Confluence of Religious Cultures in Medieval Spanish Historiography: A Digital Humanities Project
The panel participants are members of an international team of scholars working on an online, open-access digital critical edition of the Biblical narratives contained in the General e Grand Estoria (GGE) of Alfonso X of Castile (r. 1252-1284). The GGE is the only truly ecumenical work in the history of biblical exegesis and secular historiography to include Christian, Jewish, Islamic, and apocryphal interpretations. The GGE was revolutionary in the age of Latin literacy because it made available for readers of the vernacular a history of human experience, beginning with Adam and Eve and ending with the reign of Alfonso X, renowned patron of the arts and sciences.
