Abstract
This article discusses hermits of the past and how they handled isolation. The article features individuals including Christian hermit Paul of Thebes, Christian monk Anthony the Great, Christian Saint Mary of Egypt, American philosopher David Thoreau, in addition to referencing Hindu monks and Buddhist chaste female wanderers, among others. The article aims to provide coping strategies for those struggling with isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
