Abstract
In this interview, historian Dr. Matthew Rowley compares the response of religious leaders and laypeople to the current pandemic to the response of Christians to the 1616 epidemic. Rowley focuses primarily on doctrinal beliefs of religious groups as concern the divine purpose of pandemics and diseases. The article details Rowley’s warning of the potential harm to marginalized populations if religious groups attribute the pandemic to a divine plan or will.
