Description
This interview was recorded as a part of the Southwest Michigan Black Heritage Society’s Speaking of Business Oral History Project with the Western Michigan University Haworth School of Business. During the interview Sidney Williams Jr., the narrator, discussed the following topics:
- His early life and family;
- Brown v. Board of Education and Segregation;
- Lessons learned from high school;
- Attending the University of Wisconsin;
- His college football career;
- Going to law school and meeting his wife;
- Working and retiring in Kalamazoo;
- His children and grandchildren;
- Being inducted into the Wisconsin hall of fame and being the first African American quarterback in the BigTen;
- The Little Rock Nine and Racial Integration;
- The Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship;
- William E. Gay - one of Arkansas’ first African American lawyers;
- His personal views on Kalamazoo, and;
- His message to young people.
