Spring 2024

Abstract

The goal of this project is to review the LHC SLOS and accompanying assessment plan and to launch the first data collection from LHC alumni. The Lee Honors College (LHC) created college-wide student learning outcomes (SLO) for the first time in 2019. Due to unforeseen changes in college staffing, the assessment plan for the SLOS has never been implemented. Funding for this proposal would allow the LHC to provide compensation for a WMU graduate student to make the implementation of our assessment plan their sole focus to ensure a smooth transition from design to data collection, storage system and analysis. The goals for this assessment project include: 1) reviewing SLOS and comparing to peer programs; 2) creating data entry, storage and evaluation plans for LHC SLO artifacts that have been collected and are in hard copy format; 3) disseminating the SLO alumni survey to 2022-23 alums, collecting responses and organizing data; 4) creating a template for annual alumni survey reports for SLO assessment; 5) writing 2022-23 alumni survey report; and 6) writing a brief reflection on spring 2024 review and implementation process to aid continuing assessment work. We are confident that this project will not only support the missions and strategic plans of the LHC and WMU, but this project is novel within the field of honors education. It has the potential to grow, if not start, the field of learning outcome assessment within American honors colleges and programs.
