Biography

Clark Patrick Heard, OTD, OT Reg. (Ont.), is an occupational therapist at St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care and co-founder of the Occupational Therapy/Spiritual Care Research Lab. He graduated from McMaster University (Hamilton, ON) and Temple University (Philadelphia, PA, USA) with degrees in occupational therapy. Dr. Heard is an associate scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute and holds a faculty appointment at The University of Western Ontario’s School of Occupational Therapy.

Dr. Heard has published a high volume of peer-reviewed articles across the areas of leadership, mental health, and spirituality. He is the author of the SOiL Model (Spirituality and Occupation in Living). Dr. Heard is a very active clinical educator, having precepted more than 145 students to date. He has been nationally recognized by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists for excellence in clinical education. In addition, Dr. Heard is a recipient of the Sisters of St. Joseph Award for Excellence in Care, the Unsung Hero Award from McMaster University, and a Professional Practice Team Award from St. Joseph’s Health Care London, alongside his colleagues in the research lab. Recently, Dr. Heard was awarded the prestigious Barbara Sexton Lectureship at The University of Western Ontario where he considered “The Spirituality of Clinical Education.”
