Abstract
A review of studies covering the training of staff who work with older persons suggested the need for a broad based training curriculum. Such a curriculum was developed within the Michigan Department of Mental Health. A second review of training methods suggested the use of laboratory training. This method, based on behavioral principles, was utilized. The curriculum was then tested on 3839 individuals to determine the appropriateness of content and method. The results indicated that the curriculum was appropriately designed to train a broad based staff with large individual differences.
