Abstract
Constellarium is a collection of poems that traces the arcs of identity, loss, and social stigma as the speaker transitions from male to female. The first section of the manuscript explores the process of coming out and the initial months of transition. The second section of focuses on the multiple fractures within marriage and family that occur in the months and years before the speaker comes out as transgender. Section three examines the expectations associated with being raised in a military family, and the speaker’s inability and refusal to accept hyper-masculinity. The fourth and final section of Constellarium focuses on the violence and loss associated with coming of age as a closeted transgender female in a small southern town.
