Abstract
The Young Men's Christian Association is a dynamic movement. Since its beginning in London in 1844, the YMCA has evolved to meet the needs of a changing society. Changes take place on the local level, such as the Association in Charleston, North Carolina which creates programs and policies that work well in its community, and the Association in Detroit does the same. The YMCA in Cupar, Scotland meets the needs of a small town by functioning as a community center, while the one in Glasgow opens its doors to students and homeless young people in need of accommodation. These adaptations accumulate to make the YMCA a movement of people, meeting the needs of people throughout the world.
