Abstract
My intent, when I started my graduating presentation The Cycle of Passages, was to make a dance that first and foremost had an emotional catharsis with which my audience could relate. In the novel The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, the main character is stoned to death. This stoning undeniably contained the dramatic element and implied emotion that I sought. My goal was to create a piece that was emotionally riveting and physically exiting with the framework of Jackson's concept.
