Abstract

Never before has it been so important for Americans to obtain a higher education. With globalization affecting so much of the business world, it is imperative now more than ever for students to continue their formal education beyond high school. Many communities have accepted this reality and are attempting to help their students achieve post-secondary education.

In this document are the efforts of many communities to help students be successful in achieving higher education. The sub-populations different communities are concentrating on include students from poverty, first-generation students, students who are unaware of the requirements for higher education, and students without parental support. These populations are described and discussed throughout this thesis regarding post-secondary education; areas of primary concern for communities are also discussed, such as achieving entrance into higher education, and success for the youth in higher education.
