Abstract
This paper is basically an integration of Jerome Bruner's concept of "extravagance" with Lawrence Kohlberg's seventh stage of moral development. Bruner describes extravagance as "giving yourself away" (p. 219). Extravagance is "based on an unshakable belief in the limitlessness of creation . . . because giving oneself away is the ultimate extravagance--unless one is convinced that it [self] is endlessly generated within one, that there will ^always be more of where it came from'" (p. 226). Since the seventh stage is religious, I have also compared Bruner's extravagance to mainstream and feminist theology.
