Abstract
In recent years conglomerates have received increasing attention from a number of groups. Business schools look to their viability as a business organization, and economists have written both pro and con as to their justification as an economic unit. Investment analysts have evaluated them as to possible prudent investments, and Certified Public Accountants have looked hard at both the proper type and necessary amount of financial reporting by a conglomerate. Government agencies have been concerned with their possible economic benefits and related social implications, and commercial banks have directed their attention to the effect of conglomerates on the banking industry, particularly with regard to the extension of credit.
