Abstract
The question of whether brief seizures cause brain damage has been a focus of study for researchers over the last several years. This study focused on hippocampal atrophy in children with TLE. The authors analyzed the serial MRIs of 7 patients and used volumetric analysis to determine the extent or presence of hippocampal atrophy. Results indicated a non-significant trend towards hippocampal atrophy over time on the side of seizure focus. Implications for future research and trends are discussed.
