Abstract
Densitometers are used in printing, pre-press, and photogrpahic applications to determine the density of the printed object. Density is very important and press operators need to measure these factors to be sure the color is reproduced appropriately. Densitometers use filters that measure the red, green and blue spectrum of a wave length. The results are displayed as a logarithmic number. CIE L*a*b* numbers were developed in 1996 to help match color specifications. L*a*b* is a three dimensional model for lightness/darkness (L), redness-greenness (a), and yellow-blueness (b).
