Abstract
I have long been interested in our system of criminal justice. As I am a firm believer in the principle of equal justice under the law, I was quite concerned when I first learned that many defendants are able to plead guilty in exchange for what appeared to me to be unwarranted charge or sentence reductions. I thus became quite curious about this little-publicized form of criminal adjudication called plea bargaining.
